“Échos des visages”

The MuPa Association is honored to collaborate with the Museo Lercaro on the exhibition “Echoes of Faces”, which brings together works by Laurent Lafolie and Clément Mitéran as part of the 9th Contemporary Mosaic Biennale in Ravenna, Italy.

MuPa, whose mission is to promote the work of contemporary artists experimenting with the medium of mosaic to a wide audience, seizes this opportunity to further support and share the work of Clément Mitéran. In 2023, we presented in Paris his exhibition “Representations”, which explored how the human face transcends eras, techniques, and regimes of visibility, intertwining mosaic and photography.

With the exhibition “Echoes of Faces”, we now have the opportunity to discover the work of Laurent Lafolie in dialogue with that of Clément Mitéran. Both artists have, for several years, pursued research into portraiture around shared themes such as appearance/disappearance, memory, and erasure. Primarily a photographer, Laurent Lafolie presents here works whose constituent elements are juxtaposed and tilted, playing with light and the gaze in a manner reminiscent of mosaic. Clément Mitéran, coming from the field of mosaic, continues his experiments with photographic material on mineral and glass supports.

Particularly attentive to hybrid forms, MuPa is delighted to contribute to bringing together in this exhibition two artists whose works confront us with the most contemporary dimensions of artistic research, both in the field of photography and in that of mosaic.

The exhibition is curated by Michel Poivert and Giovanni Gardini.
